SO THERE’S NO BARBELL YOU SAY?

So Dave Castro has released the full schedule of individual events and much to everyone’s surprise not a single barbell was prescribed.

THAT’S HARD TO BELIEVE.

As of right now that’s correct, but here’s a few facts to chew on:

Fun Fact #1: Every single Regionals since 2012 has had seven events, with three events usually on Friday or Saturday; never on Sunday.

Fun Fact #2: Every single Regionals has included a barbell.

Fun Fact #3: Every Regionals since 2011 has included a max weightlifting event of some kind (hat tip Armen Hammer).

WHY THERE MIGHT BE A 7TH EVENT.

The Regionals events are looking more and more like the CrossFit Games. The 2017 Regionals welcomes for the first time weight vests, kettlebell deadlifts, the Worm for teams, and sandbags; all of which have appeared at the CrossFit Games.

As CrossFit HQ’s Tommy Mraquez said the just other day about the Games makers: “Their job is not to stay on trend with what people think is appropriate, it’s more about finding the best way to test these people that’s going to force them to adapt and be able to prove their fitness in the best manner possible.”

What better way to test athletes’ ability to adapt that than with a surprise event?

WHY THERE PROBABLY WON’T BE A SURPRISE 7TH EVENT.

Logistics. Simply put, it’s only a surprise for heat one at the East and South Regionals which are in the same time zone. Everyone else will know and that doesn’t make it a surprise any longer.

If there is a mysterious seventh event it will be announced before Day 1. But our prediction is these are the six events for the 2017 CrossFit Regionals.
