Quick Roundup

  1. A truck strike in Brazil forced CrossFit to source equipment from local affiliates. Without Air Runners, they modified Event 1 to an actual outside run and athletes performed push-presses instead of bench press in Event 2.
  2. After just one pull on his rower during Event 1, Johnny Medina’s handle broke off so they had to (quickly) bring in a replacement rower. He ended up finishing 30th in that event with a time of 41:47.
  3. All individual event records stayed intact, but Code 3 San Diego and CrossFit Mayhem broke the Event 1 and 2 records. Here’s where you can track all worldwide event records.
  4. Margaux Alvarez won the South Regional then she came down to SoCal and won a strict pull-up challenge just for fun. She hit 19…maybe 20 unbroken.

  5. Three of the top five females in the West are relatively unknown. Ehea Schuerch (3rd) has only been doing CrossFit since 2016, Kelcy Ware (2nd) has been to Regionals but never placed better than 24th, and Hayley Murillo (5th) has been a team athlete for the past three years.
  6. Mathew Fraser racked up his 16th career Regional victory yesterday.
  7. The West Regional has 13 former Male Games athletes and 11 females vying for five spots to Madison.
  8. LOLOL…Brent Fikowski’s water bottle exploded while taking a sip during Event 1.
