All good things must come to an end and with that said, the 2021 NOBULL CrossFit Games came to a conclusion this past Sunday. It has been a crazy year as the Games evolved once again while the world still deals with a global pandemic, however, the Games still went on and it thrived. Our expert analysts Tommy Marquez, Brian Friend and Patrick Clark give us their takeaways as they were able to cover the Games from many different angles from the broadcast perspective, behind-the-scenes, media and as fans of the sport.

Tommy’s Takeaways

The 2021 Games format is the way of the future, cuts included

I will start this by saying that in general, I am generally not a fan of cuts at the Games given the workload from the athlete required to get there, and statistical anomalies that occur as a result of scoring format changes. However, cuts have long been a part of the Games, and I think this season was a happy medium between giving athletes plenty of leash to prove themselves, and trimming the field to add drama, significance, and consequence throughout the week.
