Typically Saturday for CrossFit competitions is moving day — but it seems like that might hold off until the final day of competition.

While Roman Khrennikov and Seung Yeon Choi are the clear leaders on the men’s and women’s fields — it’s that second Games ticket that will be on the line, especially on the men’s field.

Morning Chalk Up’s Lauren Kalil sits down with Ed Haynes to talk about how the programming could have played a major role in what the leaderboard looks like, how the final days events may cause some shifts to the podium and who he’ll be watching heading into day 3.

What’s going on with the close points at the top of the men’s field? Our Far East Throwdown Correspondent, Ed Haynes, gives his insights:

  • “Khrennikov is still clearly the dominant athlete,” said Haynes. “But you’re getting consistent finishes in the Top 5 from second and third place, so what you’re not having is athletes lower on the leaderboard coming between them and Khrennikov and separating.”

As far as how this affects Day 3, “While (Khrennikov) is doing really well, nobody’s separating from him, so all it takes on the last day is one potential slip up to have a potentially different competition.” Haynes added he did not expect this with the way Khrennikov is performing thus far in the competition.
