Individual competitor Hayley Murillo posted on her Instagram that she was dedicating Day 3 to her mother.

“I sure hope heaven looks like this. Miss you Mama. Thank you CrossFit Games for always bringing me back to my Mom’s old stomping grounds.”

In the post, Murillo holds up a photograph of her mother, and “some of her hundreds of ribbons” with a hashtag #day3isforyou. The framed photo, Murillo’s personal favorite of her mother, shows her standing with her two favorite horses, Lucky and Misty, at the same Del Mar stables where Murillo has been competing at the West Regional.

“She showed horses here at Del Mar,” Murillo said before her final event. A local to San Diego, Mary Norton Montroy never got to see her daughter compete at Del Mar. In February 2014, Montroy died of heart failure, just before Murillo’s first CrossFit Open as an Individual.

“It’s so cool, so special, to be able to be here and share that with her. It’s like I brought her with me.”

Day 3 proved difficult for Murillo who finished West Regionals in 17th.
