The newly sanctioned CrossFit Italian Showdown just announced that any individual athlete who competed at Regionals in 2018 will be invited to bypass their online qualifier and compete at the first day of the Showdown on April 26, 2019 in Milan, Italy.
“By recognizing the value already proven during the 2018 CrossFit Games Regionals, we intend to reward the efforts and the continuous hard work of the most experienced athletes and, just as important, free up more slots in the pre-selections for newcomers and beginners,” event director Carlo Strati said in an email.
This is the only competition so far to invite Regional athletes to bypass a qualifier. In order to secure a spot, athletes must send an email to the Italian Showdown by November 11th.
Earning a spot
Starting mid-November, all athletes can register for the pre-selection or qualification phase. Athletes can complete the pre-selection in person in five different host cities across Italy from January 13 to February 23, 2019. Athletes who are unable to attend one of pre-selection sites will have a chance to do the workout online on February 17, 2019.
The pre-selection qualifier is just one workout and the top 1500 will be selected to compete at the main event.
