Scott Panchik Signs With inov-8
It’s been a busy few weeks for Scott Panchik.
Less than a week ago, Panchik took on Rich Froning head-to-head in the Rogue 20.1 announcement where he confirmed rumors that he’ll be joining the CrossFit Mayhem team for the 2020 Games season. Now Panchik is making moves on the sponsorship front, as inov-8 formally announced via press release this morning that Panchik is the newest athlete to join their team.
Panchik technically made the announcement earlier this month through an Instagram post as well, but the formal announcement today seals the deal, as inov-8 signs one of the most accomplished individual athletes in the sport.
Why it matters: Anytime a top-tier athlete in the sport makes changes with regards to sponsorship, the effects are three-fold – for the brand specifically, the athlete, and the broader ecosystem of athletes.
- This is the 3rd major athlete to leave Reebok since June, following the departures of both Tia-Clair Toomey, and Katrin Davidsdottir.
- Inov-8 expands their athlete stable, and basically guarantees that they’ll have an athlete on the CrossFit Games podium next year – most likely on top of the podium as well – which is great optics-wise.
- Panchik becomes a lead athlete of a brand that suddenly has a larger foothold in the space – with footwear restrictions at the Games now gone and the title sponsorship of the Games leaving next season.
- Diversity equals opportunity for athletes as more brands like inov-8, NOBULL, and Born Primitive start gaining success and looking to sponsor more athletes.
Panchik on the move: “Inov-8 was my first pair of CrossFit shoes when I started years ago. I am excited to work with them on new ideas, and to represent them on the competition floor. I love the versatility of the F Lite 260s. I can wear them running, lifting, and in metcons.”
The reigning 4th fittest man on the planet joins Dani Speegle and Jared Enderton as inov-8 athletes in the CrossFit space along with a handful of athletes in the running and obstacle course racing world.
