Rogue Invitational 2025 Programming Drops – Log Bar, Horizontal Peg Board Return
The 2025 Rogue Invitational — one of the most anticipated events on the CrossFit calendar — is set for October 31 through November 2 in Aberdeen, Scotland.
Elite CrossFit athletes will go head-to-head alongside the world’s best Strongmen and Strongwomen, testing their limits with Rogue’s signature mix of heavy implements and creative programming.
- True to tradition, this year’s lineup features fan-favorite odd objects and new challenges. The log bar muscle-up, first introduced in 2022’s “Ski Bar,” is back, as is the horizontal pegboard, which debuted in 2024.
Rogue released the official programming for six of nine events on Monday, revealing the return of the power stairs, sandbags, and yoke carries — all designed to push athletes to their limits and keep fans guessing.
Here are a few more key takeaways from the Rogue programming announcement.
Return of ‘The Duel’
While details haven’t been announced, “Event 5: The Duel V” is scheduled on Saturday.
This legendary elimination-style event is an annual highlight of the competition. Last year, “The Duel IV” included hay bale up and overs, sled push, and power stair steps.
- The workout is always exciting because of the bracket-style, elimination format. It’s typically a sprint event that keeps fans on the edge of their seats.
- Last year, Laura Horvath won “The Duel IV” on the women’s side, while Guilherme Malheiros claimed the event win for the men over Brent Fiowski.
Separately, the log bar will return in a chipper workout that ends with 20 log bar muscle-ups. “Event 1: Nessie” is the most gymnastic-heavy/plyometric event thus far, featuring handstand walking, GHD sit-ups, and box jump overs.
The log will also show up in “Event 2: William Wallace,” a three-round workout featuring other odd objects like yoke carries and power stairs. Athletes will perform log clean and presses in Event 2 at 215/150 pounds for the men and women.
New Equipment TBD
Thus far, most of the workouts seem right on brand. Traditionally though, the Rogue Invitational introduces new equipment that athletes have to figure out how to use and use well on the fly.
- It seems likely that one of the three workouts yet to be revealed will include a new implement.
Meanwhile, spectators will see athletes take another shot at the horizontal pegboard. It proved to be a difficult test of fitness during last year’s event. Some athletes caught on quickly, while others struggled with the traverse.
- This year, “Event 4: The Crux” combines rowing, bench press (at an undetermined weight), and horizontal pegboard into a five-round workout.
With six of the nine workouts now revealed, athletes can begin strategizing and planning accordingly. Though three workouts are still TBD, leaving the door open for some monstrous workouts and perhaps new equipment never used before in competition.
- We don’t know about Events 5, 7, or 9 yet. But it seems likely that one would at least be a max lift in some heavy-lifting event.
- In 2023, the final event was a sandbag clean-and-ladder, reaching 225 pounds for men and 175 pounds for women.
The year prior, it was a max deadlift. What will we see this year?
