Day 1 of the Syndicate Crown has come to an end in Knoxville, TN, and there is a familiar face atop the men’s individual leaderboard. Justin Medeiros has captured the top spot with a consistent performance showcasing how extremely well-rounded he is.

The details: Medeiros didn’t win any of the two opening day events, but he simply finished top-five in both to rack up 176 total points. He holds a four-point advantage over Jayson Hopper, who capped off his own day with a second-place finish in Event 2.

  • The top spot in the opening event went to both Griffin Roelle and Tudor Magda. The two men completed the complex with 345 pounds, just edging out Medeiros and Panchik.
  • Medeiros finished in a tie for fourth overall in the barbell complex after both he and Scott Panchik lifted 335 pounds.

The situation changed during Event 2, Oregon Trail. Roelle finished the event featuring Echo Bike calories, Torque Tank pushes, and dumbbell work with the 15th-fastest time. Magda posted the 19th-fastest time after landing hard on his dumbbell during one of his final devil presses.

Medeiros showcased his athletic prowess with another smooth performance. He remained consistent throughout the three-round event and kept pace with Hopper and Cole Greashaber, ultimately finishing fourth once again.

What’s next: The individual athletes have taken on a heavy barbell complex and a grueling workout where there was no place to hide. Now they will move forward with two more events on Saturday. They will start with a throwback to the 2014 regionals, which is 10 rounds of one legless rope climb and a 170-foot run. They will then cap off the day with a long workout featuring SkiErg calories, wall ball shots, GHD sit-ups, and 80-foot handstand walks.
