Last week, we reported that, after spending 10 years in California followed by seven year in Madison, WI, the CrossFit Games will move to Birmingham, AL—a city of 210,000—in 2024.

No surprise, the announcement was met with excitement from gym owners in the Birmingham region—an area with 25 affiliates—who said the CrossFit Games coming their way can positively impact, not just their businesses on a personal level, but also the health of their greater local community at large.

What they’re saying: “Our box is very excited about the positive impact it will have on our community, as well as those around us,” said Zayne Ferguson, the owner of CrossFit 231—whose gym is located in Pell City, 40 miles from the Birmingham CrossPlex, where the Games are expected to take place.
