The dust is yet to settle on the Last Chance Qualifier and once the videos are reviewed the leaderboard could still shake up, but as of this moment, newcomer Elena Carratala Sanahuja has edged out veteran Katrin Davidsdottir for the final Games spot in 2022.

The details: Sanahuja has never qualified for the Games prior to this year, but in 2021 she placed 7th in the Lowlands Throwdown and 14th in the Last Chance Qualifier.

  • Last week, Sanahuja won the French Throwdown against a stout roster of Games-level athletes. She took first over Karin Freya with 756 points versus Freya’s 716.

Remind me: Katrin Davidsdottir was chasing her tenth trip to the CrossFit Games.

  • The Icelandic athlete won the Games in 2015 and 2016, making her the second woman to win multiple Games behind her countrywoman, Annie Thorisdottir. Of course, Tia-Clair Toomey holds the record for Games wins on the women’s side with five and is working towards a sixth this season.
  • Davidsdottir took sixth at Strength in Depth last month, just six points out of a Games-qualifying spot behind Italian rookie Elisa Fuliano.

The bottom line: Katrin Davidsdottir has been a stalwart presence at the CrossFit Games and in 2022 fans will watch the competition without the two-time champ for the first time since 2012.
