Good morning and welcome to the Morning Chalk Up. The individuals and teams head into their second day at the 2023 NOBULL CrossFit Games and we will have you covered for everything and anything you need to know.

CROSSFIT GAMES

Day 4 Lay of the Land

We enter day four at the 17th annual NOBULL CrossFit Games in Madison, WI. Individuals and teams will take on three events worth 300 points before the first set of cuts (bringing the individual fields to 30 athletes each by Saturday morning).

Meanwhile, the age groups and adaptive athletes finished out their 2023 season on Thursday evening.

We kick off day four with Test 4 for individuals: “The Alpaca Redux,” which is the reemergence of a test Adrian Bozman introduced in 2022. The workout consists of a sled push, legless rope climbs and double kettlebell clean and jerks.

When asked about flipping the Pig during Test 2: “Pig Chipper,” test winner Laura Horvath said:

  • “I thought it would be heavier, it was pretty light.”

After finishing his final test and securing his first place medal in the 35-39 men’s division, Sam Dancer announced:

  • “I plan on retiring from the Master’s Division and heading back to the open Individual.”

One big number: 6 — The number of times Susan Clarke has taken home first place in her age division spanning the 55-59, 60+, and 60-64 age divisions.

For the statisticians:

How to stay in the know:

Today’s top stories: Stay up-to-date on key stories as they develop.

One last thing: It’s clear, even after only one day of competition, this is going to be a long weekend for athletes, from bike wipeouts to steamy hot turf. This is only the start and a lot could change in just a few days.
