The Definitive Guide to Qualifying for 2019-2020 Season Sanctionals

The 2019-2020 CrossFit Games season is upon us, and with it comes a full slate of Sanctionals competition that includes 13 brand new events for this year.  With 28 total events spanning November until July, the opportunity to compete has never been greater.

Below is our complete guide to Sanctionals qualifying to keep you up to speed with how you can make your way to the competition floor this year.*

*Note: Qualifying details for some of the sanctioned events are still being determined, we will update information on this page as it becomes known.

CrossFit Filthy 150: November 22-24, 2019

Location: Dublin, Ireland

Spots:  36 men, 36 women and 24 teams.

Direct invites: Yes, teams and individuals.

  • Filthy150 has reserved 6 male, 6 female and 4 team wildcard spots to invite at their discretion.

Qualifier: International Online Qualifier August 21 – September 9, 2019

  • 30 men, 30 women and 20 teams will qualify through the IOQ.
  • Registration begins: July 1, 2019.

SouthFit CrossFit Challenge: December 6-8, 2019

Location: Buenos Aires, Argentina

Spots: 35+ men, 35+ women, and 10+ teams depending on acceptance of direct invites.

Direct invites:Yes, individuals and teams.

  • SouthFit has reserved 8 male, 8 female and 3 team wildcard spots to invite at their discretion.

Qualifier: International Online Qualifier August 21 – September 9, 2019

  • Total number of qualifying spots: 35 men, 35 women, and 10 teams. .
  • Registration begins: July 1, 2019.

Pandaland CrossFit Challenge: December 7-8, 2019

Location: Chengdu, China

Spots: 80 men, 80 women, and 20 teams.

Direct invites: Yes, individuals only.

  • The Pandaland CrossFit Challenge has reserved 20 male, and 20 female wild card spots to invite at their discretion.

Qualifier: CrossFit Games Open – October 10 – November 11, 2019

  • The online qualifier will consist of the same workouts as and run concurrent with the Open.
  • Through the Open, 20 men, 20 women, and top 20 teams will qualify.
  • Additionally, the first 40 affiliates in China to register with the PCC will qualify their top scoring male and female RX athlete.
  • Athletes and teams must register specifically with the PCC via competition corner by October 14.

Cost: Individual $30, Team $80

 

Dubai CrossFit Championship: December 11-14, 2019

Location: Dubai, United Arab Emirates

Spots: 30 men, 30 women and 10 teams.

Direct invites: Yes, Individuals only.

  • Champions from the past three years are invited: Mat Fraser (2x), Bjorgvin Karl Gudmundsson, Sam Briggs, Annie Thorisdottir, and Sara Sigmundsdottir.
  • Tia-Clair Toomey and Noah Ohlsen are invited as the winners of the Dubai CrossFit Championship sponsored Split Triplet event at the Games. Mat Fraser technically won the event, but already has an invite so it passed down to 2nd place Noah Ohlsen.

Qualifier: CrossFit Games Open – October 10 – November 11, 2019

  • The online qualifier will consist of the same workouts as and run concurrent with the Open.
  • Ten teams and the remaining individual spots after direct invites are accepted will qualify.
  • Athletes must register specifically for the Dubai qualifiers via competition corner by October 14, 2019.

CrossFit Mayhem Classic: January 11-12, 2020

Location: Cookeville, Tennessee

Spots:  30 men, and 30 women

Direct invites: Yes

  • The top 5 men and women on worldwide in the 2020 CrossFit Games Open will receive an invite.

Qualifier: CrossFit Games Open – October 10 – November 11, 2019

  • The online qualifier will consist of the same workouts as and run concurrent with the Open.
  • Total number of qualifying spots: 25 men, and 25 women.
  • Athletes must register for both the Open, and directly with the event through the Mayhem Classic competition website.
  • During registration, athletes will be required to provide their CrossFit ID to link to their Open scores.

CrossFit Strength in Depth: January 24-26, 2020

Location: London, England

Spots: 40 men, 40 women and 20 teams.

Direct invites: Yes, teams and individuals.

  • Wildcard invitations will also go out to 5 male and 5 female athletes.
  • The winning teams of the SiD Origins, The Battle for Middle Ground, the Glasgow Classic, and the Unite Fitness Festival competitions will receive an invite.

Qualifier: CrossFit Games Open – October 10 – November 11, 2019

  • The Online Qualifier will consist of the same workouts as and run concurrent with the Open.
  • Athletes and teams must register with Strength in Depth directly through their website by October 14, 2019.
  • Registration begins: September 12, 2019.
  • 35 men, 35 women and 16 teams will qualify through the Open. The top 10 U.K athletes, plus the top 25 overall will earn the 35 spots up for grabs for individuals.

Cost: $20 individuals, $80 teams

CrossFit Fittest in Cape Town: February 6-9, 2020

Location: Cape Town, South Africa

Spots: 30 men, 30 women and 30 teams.

Direct invites: Yes, teams and individuals.

  • The 2019 FiCT Champions will be invited.
  • The top 10 men, top 10 women, and top 5 teams from the 2019 CrossFit Games will be invited; no backfilling.
  • The top 10 men, top 10 women from the 2020 CrossFit Games Open will be invited.
  • The top 5 teams from the FiCT Community Series event will earn an invite.
  • No wild card invites.

Qualifier: CrossFit Fittest in Cape Town Online Qualifier November 22 – December 2, 2019

  • Remaining individual spots following direct invites, and the remaining team spots up to 25 spots max following invites will be awarded in the qualifier.
  • Registration begins: TBD.

Cost: Individual $15, Team $50

Norwegian CrossFit Championship: February 14-16, 2020

Location: Gol, Norway

Spots:  40 men, 40 women and 20 teams.

Direct invites: Yes, teams and individuals.

  • The winning male pairs, and female pairs of the Butchers Classic will receive direct invites to compete as individuals.
  • The winning male and female individuals from the Tyngre Tango competition will receive direct invites.
  • The winning male, female, and team from the Norwegian Throwdown will receive direct invites.
  • Direct invites will be backfilled one spot.

Qualifier: CrossFit Games Open – October 10 – November 11, 2019

  • The online qualifier will consist of the same workouts as and run concurrent with the Open.
  • Athletes and teams must register with the NCC directly through competition corner by October 23, 2019.
  • 36 men, 36 women and 19 teams will qualify through the IOQ.
  • Registration begins: July 10, 2019.

Cost: Individual $33, Team $110

Wodapalooza CrossFit Festival: February 20-23, 2020

Location: Miami, Florida

Spots:  No set number, final athlete numbers will be determined based on number of accepted direct invites.

Direct invites: Yes, teams and individuals.

  • Top 30 men and women at 2019 CrossFit Games.
  • Top 3 from 2015-2018 CrossFit Games.
  • Top 30 men and women from 2019-2020 CrossFit Open.
  • Top 3 from Granite Games 2019.
  • Individual winners from Wodapalooza and Granite Games for last five years.
  • Any winner of a 2018-2019 Season Sanctional.
  • Any winner of the following 2019-2020 Season Sanctionals: Filthy150, Pandaland CrossFit Challenge, Dubai CrossFit Championship, SouthFit CrossFit Championship, CrossFit Mayhem Classic, CrossFit Strength in Depth, CrossFit Fittest in Cape Town, and Norwegian CrossFit Championship.
  • Individual Sanctional invites will not be backfilled.
  • Top 10 teams at the 2019 CrossFit Games.
  • Team podium finishers from Wodapalooza 2019.

Australian CrossFit Championship: March 5-8, 2020

Location: Queensland, Australia

Spots:  30+ men, 30+ women, and 12+ teams depending on number of accepted direct invites.

Direct invites: Yes, individuals and teams.

  • The Australian CrossFit Championship reserves the right to invite a select few athletes to the event at their discretion.

Qualifier: CrossFit Games Open – October 10 – November 11, 2019, Australian CrossFit Championship Team Online Qualifier – November 13-19, 2019

  • The online qualifier will consist of the same workouts as and run concurrent with the Open.
  • Individual athletes must register with the ACC directly through competition corner.
  • 30 men, 30 women will qualify through the Open, and 12 teams will qualify through the ACC Team online qualifier.
  • Registration begins: July 1, 2019.

Cost: Individual $25, Team $100

Brazil CrossFit Championship: March 6-8, 2020

Location: São Paulo, Brazil

Spots: 32 men, 32 women and 16 teams.

Direct invites: Yes, teams and individuals.

  • Six wild cards each for men and women, and three wild card invites for the teams will be awarded at the discretion of the BCC.
  • The primary criteria for awarding wild cards will be based on past performance at the BCC and CrossFit Games.
  • Athletes can apply for a wild card by emailing [email protected]

Qualifier: CrossFit Games Open – October 10 – November 11, 2019

  • The online qualifier will consist of the same workouts as and run concurrent with the Open.
  • Athletes must register directly with the BCC through competition corner.
  • 26 men, 26 women and 13 teams will qualify through the Open.
  • Registration begins: August 19, 2019.

Cost: Individual $18, Team $60

CrossFit Atlas Games: March 13-15, 2020

Location: Montreal, Canada

Spots: 40 men, 40 women and 20 teams.

Direct invites: Yes, individuals and teams.

  • Top 20 finishers (men & women) at the 2019 CrossFit Games.
  • Previous CrossFit Games podium finishers.
  • Previous Atlas Games champion for last three years.
  • Previous CrossFit Sanctional individual elite winner (2019-2020).
  • The Atlas Games keeps the right to invite other athletes than the above, however athletes who wish to apply must respect the previous criteria.
  • Any unfilled invite spots will be backfilled through the online qualifier.
  • The winning teams of the elite division for the Dtown throwdown, Element Team Challenge, Synergie Winterpalooza, and CrossFit 306 3on3 Throwdown will be invited to the Atlas Games finals.

Qualifier: International Online Qualifier August 21 – September 9, 2019, Team Qualifier – December 6-16, 2019

  • 30-40 men, 30-40 women and 16 teams will qualify through the IOQ.

  • The Online Qualifier will consist of the same workouts as and run concurrent with the Open.
  • In addition to the five Open workouts, a sixth, unique workout will be posted at the close of the Open on November 10, and all scores will be due by November 17.
  • Number of spots available through the qualifier TBD.
  • Registration begins: October 10.

West Coast CrossFit Classic: March 20-22, 2020

Location: Del Mar, California

Spots: No set number, final athlete numbers will be determined based on number of accepted direct invites.

Direct invites: Yes, individuals and teams.

  • Top 30 men and women at 2019 CrossFit Games.
  • Top 3 from 2015-2018 CrossFit Games.
  • Top 3 men and women from Wodapalooza 2020.
  • Top 3 from Granite Games 2019.
  • Individual winners from Wodapalooza and Granite Games for the last five years.
  • Any individual Sanctional winner from the last 12 months prior to the WCC event date.
  • Top 10 teams at the 2019 CrossFit Games.*
  • Team podium finishers from Wodapalooza 2020.*
  • Any team Sanctional winner from the last 12 months prior to the WCC event date.

*Teams must return 4 members from their roster (can include M/F alternates)

Qualifier: CrossFit Games Open – October 10 – November 11, 2019

  • The top 30 men and women worldwide in the Open will earn a spot.
  • The top 10 men and women from the previously defined “West Regional” in the CrossFit Games Open (Canada West, West Coast regions) will earn a spot.
  • Number of team spots available: 20.
  • Teams will be scored via the sum of their individual scores in the CrossFit Games Open.
  • Registration is currently open.

CrossFit German Throwdown: March 28-29, 2020

Location: Berlin, Germany

Spots:  38 men, 38 women, 28 teams.

Direct invites: Yes, teams and individuals.

  • The top two men, women, and teams overall, along with the top two highest placing German men, women, and teams from the German Throwdown Classic will receive invites.
  • There will be 4 male, 4 female, and 4 team wild card spots available for athletes who finish either in the top 40 at the 2019 Games or the top 50 in the 2020 Open.
  • Athletes must apply directly with the event for these spots, and priority will be given to highest finisher at the Games, then highest finisher in the Open. Application deadline is January 9, 2020.

Qualifier: CrossFit German Throwdown Online Qualifier – January 10-27, 2019

  • Number of spots available through the qualifier: 30 men, 30 women, and 20 teams.
  • Registration begins: November 11, 2019.

ELFIT CrossFit Championship: April 8-11, 2020

CrossFit Italian Showdown: April 24-26, 2020

Location:Riccione, Italy

Spots: 1,500 total spots available, combined between individuals and teams.

Direct invites: Yes, individuals and teams.

  • The Italian Showdown retains the right to issue a limited number of special invites at their discretion.
  • Invited athletes will still have to compete in the day 1 elimination round with the remaining athletes.

Qualifier: No qualifier, direct registration only

  • Athletes can register directly for the first day of competition.
  • Spots will be given on a first come, first served basis.
  • Athletes will select their age division however, there will be a single Open division on the first day instead of the typical Elite, Rx, or Scaled divisions.

Madrid CrossFit Championship: May 1-3, 2020

  • Top 3 from 2015-2018 CrossFit Games.

Location: Wollongong, Australia

Spots: 80 men, 80 women and 40 teams.

  • The podium finishers in all divisions from the 2020 Brazil CrossFit Championship will receive an invite.
  • The winning male and female athletes from the Kalis Games, a CrossFit licensed event, will receive invite.
  • The winning male and female athletes from the Crusader Indy Series, and Schwartz Challenge will receive an invite.

Qualifier: CrossFit Games Open – October 10 – November 11, 2019

  • Individuals and Teams must register an “expression of interest” (EOI) directly with the DUCC, and Open scores will be used to rank athletes who submit an EOI.

  • The top 3 in Belgium
  • The numbers 1 and 2 in Luxembourg.

NOTE: These positions will not be backfilled.

Qualifier: Lowlands Throwdown Online Qualifier March 5 – 10, 2020

  • Remaining 40 individual and all 20 team spots will be filled through the online qualifier.
  • The online qualifier will have three workouts that must be before on the same day, not in a 24-hour window.
  • If athletes qualifying from the Open decline their invitation, their invite will be passed down to next in the online qualifier.

Mayan CrossFit Classic: July 3-5, 2020

Location: Riviera Maya, Mexico

Spots:  No set number, the total athlete number will be determined by the number of accepted invites.

  • Top 30 men and women at 2019 CrossFit Games.
  • Top 3 from 2015-2018 CrossFit Games.
  • Top 20 men and women worldwide in the 2020 Open
  • Top 10 men and women in Latin America in the 2020 Open.
  • Top 5 men and women in Mexico in the 2020 Open.
  • Top 3 men and women at the West Coast Classic, Madrid CrossFit Championship, Granite Games, and Wodapalooza 2020.
  • Any individual Sanctional winner from the last 12 months prior to the event date.
  • Top 10 teams at the 2019 CrossFit Games.*
